459 Peter Gabriel – Peter Gabriel

In May of 1980, former Genesis alum Peter Gabriel released his third self-titled record.

Known by informally as Melt, (due to the altered Polaroid photo of Gabriel with half of his face melting off) the album became his first commercial breakthrough as a solo artist, showing him to be a true innovator and one of the finest musical artists of his day.

  1. The Invention of Art-Pop: a play in one act.

Artist: I don’t feel like going to all the trouble of making a good record. That’s too much work!

Producer: It’s cool baby. Just make an okay record but make it a little weird and pretentious. It won’t sell as well as a good record, but the kids who want to think that they’re smart will buy it, so the sales will be decent.

Artist: Hooray! *grabs bongo drums and/or didgeridoo*

    Scene.
